“To teach is to touch lives forever”, as the adage goes.
By definition, a teacher is someone who teaches in school. They teach us how to read, write, and count. They give us different activities. They assign us countless projects. Majority of the time, it would seem like all they know is how to make our lives a living hell by the amount of work they tell us to do. But have we ever acknowledged the impact they have in our lives?
Look around us. We can recognize words, numbers, colors, and shapes – all because of a teacher. The doctor who treated us, the engineer who helped build our homes, and even our favorite English teacher are being great at their jobs – all because of a teacher. We may not realize it but everything that we are able to do are all because we had a teacher who believed in us.
Have you ever noticed how they would always ask us how to relate the concepts we have learned in real life? It is because they do not only impart knowledge that we need in our classes but they also give us wisdom that we need in our lives. They can turn a simple math problem into a life lesson by teaching us that every problem always has a solution. It is amazing how it is almost like they are just wired to do that.
Teachers carry so much weight on their shoulders with the huge responsibility of looking after hundreds of lives. They help create a better future by shaping the lives of the students they teach. They may not be loaded with advanced weaponry and they may not have the strongest physiques to win a war but still, they are unsung heroes that we should always honor.
