Everybody has evidently observed how modern technology affects the studies of our school children. Youngsters, particularly students have gone a long, unstoppable way enjoying themselves in playing candy crush floppy birds in computer. They also busy themselves in facebook google, twitter and instagram. All these are brought by modern technology.

 

          Seemingly, one disadvantage of the so-called modern technology is the  retrogression of the students in their studies. This being the case some students have got poor grades, if not failing grades, in the end of the school year.

 

          Of course, as a classroom teacher who also subscribes on the modern technology that we have today believe that students should not be addicted to playing computers and other attractive gadgets that totally hamper their study habits.

 

          Based on this premise . I have come to realize the urgency of guidance and counseling services to students. Having a dedicated guidance counselor in the school is indeed, worthwhile as it becomes imperative to employ one who can analyze, study and advise students who are lax and truant in the schools.

 

          Truly, I am not a Psychology major. Yet I have to know a little about psychology to be used for my students’ behavior in classes.

 

          It is a  common belief that teachers like me should be aware of the psychological, sociological and educational factors that may underlie certain maladaptive patterns of students’ behavior.

 

          In this regard, a teacher must have a sound judgment to make the appropriate decision of his students manifesting signs of truancy, easy-going in classes and even attitude of absenteeism.

 

          Of course, I would like to reiterate that modern technology and the so-called social media are the real competitors of the teachers in getting the full attention of the students to be able to make them concentrate on their studies.

          I would therefore, suggest to my colleagues in the teaching profession to be on the guide of their students who are addicted to modern gadgets.

 

          As a piece of advise, let us exert all efforts to make our students feel the value of education……that they should not miss this opportunity given to them….to go to school for the sake of a bright future.
