As there are many and various ways of learning – different individuals have different learning styles; there are at the same time many and various ways of teaching.

Teachers always try to look for ways to improve learning through better teaching. They always experiment on different techniques, strategies and methods just to make sure that teaching will be more practical, lasting and functional.

Through the advent of modern technology, we now have easy and instant access to the diverse tools aided by technology in the many affairs of our every day lives.

Thus, in teaching, teachers also seek to use the aid of modern technology to improve teaching and to effect improved learning outcomes.

The use of modern technology can be an effective and powerful tool in teaching. With the products of technology, as such, television, computers, tablets, iPod, cell phones and many others, we can make teaching more effective and learning results can be more impressive, which is the very basic task that the Department of Education hopes to achieve through the implementation of the K-to-12 Curriculum.

Many subjects now can be taught using technology tools.

Science classes can use videos and projectors (if available at school) to show body processes, animal and plant types, environmental phenomena and natural occurrences.

Math lessons may involve hands-on mathematical computations using calculators, laptops or even cell phones.

EPP/TLE classes make the best use of technology by using television, computers and others to demonstrate sewing, carpentry, cooking, baking and agriculture. Nowadays, many learners are able to create things by following simple Do-It-Yourself (DIY) procedures. We can only amazed by what they can do!

Araling Panlipunan can now best enjoyed by learners if history is taught by showing films and documentaries of the past that shaped our history and culture. Gone are the days when we only could see Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio in pictures. Today we can even watch their life stories and how they fought for the freedom of our Mother Land. Learners do not get so bored by merely listening to lectures when historical facts and figures are being discussed.

And of course, MAPEH subjects, Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health are better enjoyed with the use of CD players and computers. Dance, gymnastics and games steps are better taught using video demonstrations. What more can a learner ask for?

With the use of technology, teaching and learning have been made more active and interactive.

However, we just have to caution ourselves, the parents and most specially the learners to make sure that they get to control the use of technology and not for technology to control them. Time management should be exercised so that technology will all be working for the optimum use of teaching and the optimum results of learning.

We already have the access to the latest and brightest forms of technology all we have to do is learn to be wiser in using them. We have to make sure that we are on top of these forms of technology to make sure that we can use them as real powerful tools for teaching.
