The sex education modules proposed by the DepEd has stirred continuously and got negative remarks from the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP)

Yearly, the number of adolescents engaging in premarital sex is growing, and society plays a huge factor in the build-up of teenagers’ sexual drive. DepEd goal is to teach adolescents to be aware of the causes of engaging in sex. However, it is as if the modules, which have been pilot tested in two schools and have stopped after short while, teach that it is alright to have sex as long as it is safe.

There are such things deemed as too private to be tackled in front of the classroom. The knowledge and awareness of an adolescent about sex shall depend on the environment he or she has grown up with. The CBCP also believes that it will affect the morality of Filipinos and will deprive the rights of parents to handle their children.

There are also some questionable lessons in the modules. One asks a female freshman what to do with an adulterous husband and one choice is to kill him while sleeping. Another suggests that safer sex is done in homosexual union. It also promotes protected sex and the “cult of selfism”.

The lack of values and too liberal approach of the modules are hindrances of these, although this is reality, it should be done in a different way.
