During my collegiate studies taking up Education in Tomas Del Rosario College, I was deeply encouraged by my teacher in Psychology to become a full-pledged classroom teacher. Her strong motivation to us every time we met in her class served an inspiration for me and to the rest of my classmates to dream that someday we shall be in equal footing… meaning also a teacher like her.

Indeed, it was a dream in the past. Now a reality as I am now a classroom teacher in this school for about 10 years.

Truly, motivation means a lot for me. Hence, I realized the value of motivation in teaching.

If teacher like me motivates our pupils to study better, it goes without saying that a school principal or a school administrator has to motivate their teachers to teach better.

I have observed that some school principals’ no offense meant are quite confused in how to bring out the best in their teachers. These school principals may have been overwhelmed so much on paper work, attending meetings, seminars and conferences that they have no time to motivate their teachers to teach better, no time to encourage their teachers to be more creative and productive.

Without hypocrisy, given the chance to become a school head, I shall see to it that motivation will be my priority concern for my teachers.

I believe though a teacher becomes more inspired and active if the principal recognizes and applauds the good work of a teacher. In short, teachers become more inspired to teach when they are personally motivated by their principal.

Experienced and retired principal admit that motivation enables a teacher to carry out some activities to the best.

Needless to say, because it is understandable that if a teacher’s level of motivation is too low, he or she may give up quickly. On the contrary, if a teacher is given a high level of motivation. It may cause him or her stress yet may perform his/her job satisfactorily.

Of course, I believe that a principal being a leader-motivator should design a system that will continuously reinforce the enthusiasm of his teacher to teach better. And in doing this, the principal should give the teacher a touch of love and a heart to understand.

Again, this also applies to students or pupils. If they are properly motivated by their teachers learning is fully acquired.

And if teacher, again and again are properly motivated by their principal, undoubtedly they can teach better, be more creative and more productive.
