Multimedia is the latest trend in the teaching –learning process. Aside from introducing the modern scenario, it also creates a big difference in the instruction.
The integration of multimedia in the class is composed of visual images, videos, animation and sound creation. These are all contributory in creating a complex multimedia environment.
The integration of multimedia breaks the curriculum barriers and improves the learning of the pupils. It leads the learners to discussion using the various instructional materials that capture their interest. Moreover, multimedia serves as a support to their learning grasp since it makes things easier to achieve at a minimum of time.
Multimedia may cover all forms of animated and lively resources like computer, television, radio and all forms of media which are useful in the teaching-learning instructions.
Various forms of multimedia are used in the teaching-learning instructions, to wit:
1. Talking books and speech synthesis
Digital texts can be read aloud with the use of recorded human voice or synthetic text-to-speech programs. This is useful in language subjects
2. CD-ROM storybooks
The CD-ROM storybooks contain digital text in combination with animations, illustrations, speech, and sound. They are applicable to various areas and most applicable in History and English subjects.
3. Video/videodiscs
Video/videodiscs offer a means to can be employed in teaching subjects that involve interesting stories and lively actions.
4. Hypermedia
Hypermedia refers to hyperlinked multimedia—the linking the text, audio, graphics, animation, and/or video through hyperlinks. Hypermedia offers a powerful means to integrate an idea to various related ideas
5.Computer simulations
Computer simulations are computer-generated versions of real-world objects like in the showing various body systems and are applicable in science subjects. Truly, they may be fully automated or interactive, producing worthwhile inputs.
Realizing the importance of multimedia applications in education is truly advantageous! Teachers should take note of this!
