In life, people are always given choices. Choices that will make or break us. These choices can either be good, or bad, worst or worse and these choices will define who you are and who you’ll be. People who are given choices are more privileged than the others who are not given this chance.

Choices…

Everyone should have that – especially the students who are about to enter the Senior High School program of the K12 Curriculum.

Everyone is already familiar of the K12 curriculum, it is the Kindergarten plus 12 years of education and it is now being practice in the Philippines. It is new, yes. The objective of the K12 is to holistically develop the Filipino learners in order for them to known not just in Asia but also in the world.

In the K12 program, there are four different tracks that a student can choose from.

First is the Academic Track wherein the students are being trained for a college path. The academic track has four strands, there’s the General Academic Strand that has a career specific goal. The GAS is great for the students who are still undecided of what track they want to go to after JHS. The next is the HUMMS or the Humanities and Social Sciences Strand which caters for the students who has the love for communication arts, liberal arts and journalism. So, if a student wants to be just like Korina Sanchez or Jessica Soho, teachers should encourage them to take this track because it will develop their innate talent. The third strand is the STEM which help the students focus on a much more advanced concepts and topics. The students from the SSC curriculum are best fit in this strand because it correlates to their subject in JHS. And lastly for this track is the ABM track which caters for the passion and needs of those students that is in love with the business field or in a relationship with Mathematics.

The next track is the Sports Track and the Arts and Design track which maturate the student’s passion for Arts, Music, Design and also sports. It aims to give understanding of the basic principles and techniques in relation to physical education and recreation. It will also offer you discuss various factors that affect social, psychological, and cognitive development in sports leadership and management.  In Arts and Design track will prepare the students around the design, performative and creative industry. To instill the right employment skills so that you can get a job immediately after graduation, part of the curriculum of this track is to expose you to various form of media such as architecture, interior design, industrial design, graphic design, animation, painting, fashion design, photography, and film.

Lastly, the most in demand track is the Technical Vocational and Livelihood Program. Wherein a student can gain a prerequisite COCs (Certificates of Competency) and NCs (National Certifications) which would be essential when looking for better career opportunities in agriculture, electronics, and trade. This is also important when applying abroad where the skills you gain would prepare you as you join the workforce.

These different tracks can help a student in making this life changing choice. It can make or break them, just like what Thor said, Life is made up of an infinite amount of choices.
