There is no such thing as stupid students. Humans are generally the highest species among the Animal Kingdom. Humans have brains larger than any other animal in this planet, given that we only use ten percent of its potential, still that amount of brain activity and capacity cannot be labeled other than amazing. That is why ‘Stupid’ is should not even be word, because nobody is stupid.
The ability of a child to absorb knowledge varies up on his/her foundation in studying. If a child was not properly attuned with learning, the chances are either he will be slower to understand or will not have the patience to learn.
That is the reason why Elementary is such a crucial stage of development. These are the years where in a child would establish his own self limits and capacity. Here’s also when a child gets introduce to different study habits.
And as teachers, it is our duty to mold them to the better, not drag them down by saying hurtful things to them. Like saying that one is stupid for example, although these would not hurt a child physical, the wound it would inflict are those that will damage a child for a lifetime.
Verbal abuse was often taken lightly. Which should not be the case, as educators we ought to be aware of all the things that affects our students wellbeing, therefor words like stupid should not be in our vocabulary. It is just wrong to label a student ‘stupid’ just because they are slower than the others; their ability to be able to learn reflects the ability of the teacher to teach. Saying your students are stupid is like saying it to your reflection in the mirror.
