Sometimes people think being a high school student is easy. Waking up early in the morning, fixing yourself, wear your school uniform, and go to school, as simple as that. And I know some students will agree with it. But for me, being a student is not that easy. As my own experience, being a student is not simple, it is difficult and full of challenges, for me it is a battle field, you need to strive harder in order to survive, to keep yourself on air and to go with the flow, and in short it is complicated.
As you enter your classroom, there are a lot of challenges and experiences that you will meet. Sometimes, there may be easy and difficult lesson that you are going to meet during the lesson every class hours. One hour per subject, one hour of listening to nonsense and with sense words coming from the person speaking in front. RECESS, it is one of considered subject for some students and they called it “favorite subject”. You know why? Because it is also the rest of the students who are tired in the nonstop voice of the teacher. Other students will think, it is the time to rest their mind from homework, test, quizzes, etc. but majority of the class will move out their notebooks, reviewers, and other things that they need to do just not to let the thirty minute break last. Maybe, you will think it is not right to do your homework at school, but those stuffs have deeper explanation and a deeper reason. And our government always says that education is free. How come? Many students sit on the flooring at their classroom and lack of school facilities. Where do students go in order to face those eight hours of studying? Under the tree? How do students learn? Lack of textbooks. Yes we have textbooks of course an old one and many misspelled word imprinted. That’s the so-called free education for our government!
The bell rang. Recess time, half hour of making stuffs to finish, is over. It’s time to deal with another character, to deal with another personality. Even though the students heard the bell, they will continue doing their stuffs until their teacher come. As the teacher is coming to the room, they hurriedly pick up the pieces of dirt, arrange their chairs properly to make the room looks neat and clean then will pretend that nothing happened. Many hours will pass by, hours that full of wisdom and knowledge from our beloved teachers. Everyone was excited. Why? Because their favorite time is coming, the LUNCHBREAK, many students is so excited because it is one hour rest away from the ball pens and paper in the school.
Excited to let their stomach and mouth to satisfy its need, and that is to eat. But again, there are students who will choose to do school works rather to fill the starving stomach, whose craving for food. And that’s the life of a student, starving from food in order to comply with those stuffs given by the teacher. Oh poor students, that’s the reaction coming from middle class. And yes, for some person out there and they understand the situation of our beloved students. Thank you for your concern. I know they will find it hard, and so sleepy, but it is part of the reality of life. The reality that makes you and mold you the way you want to be.
The bell rang. Lunch break is over, one hour of preparing yourself to another page of your high school life. It’s already 1:00 o’clock, you will enter the room; sit on your chair, got your notebook and ball pen and you will listen to the person talking in front. Suddenly, one of your classmates will start a conversation to his seatmate, until everyone will continue chatting with one another. The teacher will get angry, will shout, and will scold you. Then, you will feel angry too because you will think that you’ve been disrespect? Then suddenly, you will think that teacher is a role model they must not like that, they are educated person why is it that they say words like that. But come to think of it, who was the first who show disrespect? Who was the first who urge them to do so? At some instances they are wrong the way they show their anger, but not at all times. There are different teachers; some are kind and sweet that’s why their students like them much. Some are terror so, may students will do everything just to avoid them. But the most different are those teachers who are not a teacher. Know why? Because they just let the student to be the teacher and them to be the students again. How about the dreams that the student is dreaming of? But some students look at it positively; they will think that it is part of the journey that they are going to tackle. Yes, you must look into it positively, to your teachers that let you to be the teacher, to the teachers who let you to do many stuffs just to pass their subject, because on your way to your journey, you will experience the same stuff and it will be easy for you to face it and move to another chapter of your life.
A great teacher is not defined by the lesson they teach nor their profession but on how they will touch their students by heart, inspire them to do those stuffs and to continue fighting, to survive and to live life. And I know a great teacher is accepting his flaws and accepting the fact that he is not perfect. Nobody is perfect. That he can commit mistakes and for those students smart and brave enough they will correct the students. A great teacher accepts corrections without being embarrassed. Because I strongly believe that I know some things that you don’t know and you know other things that I don’t know.
Being high school student is just a part of the beginning of everything, part of your success. Again, school is a battle field and there are lots of things that you need in order to become brave enough and strong enough. And that’s the teachers and projects that you look negatively. They are the things that will mold you and make you along your journey. They are the one who will complete the pages of your life, to be the best student and the best person you are, someday.
