As years pass by, the role of parents in education evolves.  More responsibilities have been put on their shoulders in guiding their children towards development. Their great involvement and encouragement help their children excel and get better.

Nowadays, a teacher therefore should seek for constant communication and cooperation with the parents of his pupils. “A teacher shall establish and maintain cordial relations with parents and shall conduct himself to their confidence and respect.” (Section I of Article IX of the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers)

The active participation of both parents and educators is what makes home-school collaboration such a simple, yet vital and powerful concept. A number of studies have connected home-school collaboration to better learning, healthy self-esteem, more positive attitudes and behaviour in life. Your child’s development on the twin tracks of home and school will help maximise his/her potential in life.(http://parents-in-education.moe.gov.sg/parents-in-education/parents-role-in-education)

Building a positive relationship with parents is essential for the success of a teacher. Parents can be teacher’s best friends and they can be his worst enemy. Creating cooperative relationship with them needs hard work but it will be well worth all effort in the long run. Keeping this relationship well maximizes the effort the pupil gives in his studies. This is what we call the perfect love triangle. The love and care which the parents and teachers show the child to ensure his good future will be changed by the realization and initiative to pursue a good schooling. Working hand-in-hand with parents will help teachers better understand the needs and development of a child. Engaging parents in the child’s life at school ensuresand keeps their child’s development on the right track.
