The value of partnership between teachers and parents in understanding children cannot be underrated.  Parents and teachers need appreciation, information and understanding from one another.

 

Parents and teachers need to appreciate both their efforts in transforming the children into socially-productive individuals.  Parents must initiate the effort at home by explaining to their children the value of education.  It is the teacher’s role to develop the potentials of the children and prepare them for higher obligations outside the school.  The nourishment of the potentials is achieved through educational activities designed for such purpose.

 

Both parents and teachers must always be aware of the pupils’ development. There is a need for parents to keep an open communication line to the teachers and be responsive whenever the teacher calls for their cooperation and attention.  Parents must abandon the never-care attitude when called by the teachers for a dialogue.  Information is key to the full development of the child.

 

Understanding should always be present in both the teachers and the parents’ hearts and minds.  Teachers must understand the situation of the parents with respect to their caring of the child.  Likewise, parents must understand the predicament of the teachers who have to look after the welfare of the pupils who are not related to them.
