Education today produces technological advancements, but without moral values that technology will end in mass destruction.

Whenever a school child commits a mistake we often hear very unpleasant remark, “Is that what you teacher has taught you” or “Is that what your mother/father has taught you?” It is a common belief that education begins at home. One quest of thoughtful parents is the rearing of children who develop towards moral maturity in decisions and conduct. Parenting and teaching both require continuity in relations.  Good parenting with teaching starts with the construction of trusting relationships and works continually to build on the foundation of trust. Faith related practices were found to be significant in influencing children toward high moral reasoning.

Examination of religious parenting practices suggests a way of sharing faith with children through socialization. Responsibility is placed on parents for living in such a way that a Christian faith is communicated naturally in the context of daily life. Parents should be minded that everything they do should be given the utmost significance to their family.

Teachers have a great role in the education of their children. The role is as important as that of feelings. The parent’s role does not stop after sending their children to school. These should be given an emphasis as some parents take their roles for granted. Moreover, parents need to be informed and reminded of the basic things in parenting. The teacher is there to help children become the kind of persons that God meant them to be. Teacher as mentors and educators must act to ensure that the next generation will enable the young to assure moral stewardship of the country tomorrow.

And today, when positive value are lacking but are urgently needed in our country, homeroom guidance because of its partnership to school’s program be one of the most effective instrument to help from values among children. Homeroom guidance and teaching both require continuity in relations. Good conversations between parents and teachers stars with construction of trusting relationships and works continually to build the foundation of trust.
