They say that “It takes two to tango.” It means that there should be two parties doing the task well to achieve good effects. It also applies to success in education. The teachers are one of the main persons who take responsibility in educating the child. There are also, however, another person who will really help the learners- the PARENTS.

The pupils spend most of their time in school so most of the influence in learning are acquired through the teachers. On the other hand, the learning does not end inside the four corners of the classroom. There should be a follow-up at home so pupils will be able to master the things they learn inside the room. This is one of the principles behind the ‘homework.’ It serves as follow-up activity at home. It can also be a bonding time between the parents and their children.

Some learners, on other hand, need closer supervision since they cannot cope up with their classmates during class hours. They are the ones who need to be given additional hours of learning, aside from being instructed inside the school. While some parents may afford to hire tutors, some parents only have enough money for their everyday basic needs. So, the most practical way is that, the parents, themselves spend time in helping the child to learn. This also applies to pupils in primary level (Kinder to Grade 3). Teachers oftentimes request the parents to have a follow-up reading activity at home so pupils will be able to learn better.

Moreover, being co-educator doesn’t only apply to academics. The school also organize the General Parent-Teacher Association (GPTA) so that both parents and teachers will communicate better to promulgate projects for the learners. GPTA also serves as organization that unites parents and teachers. It also stress out the importance of parents’ involvement in school activities.

Regularly, teachers conduct PTA meetings not just to distribute cards but also to update parents about the progress of their children. According to research, most pupils whose parents regularly attend PTA meetings show changes and improvement in their classes. Even the children see the importance if their parents take time to see their performances

We commend the parents who earnestly lend their support to the school. They are the ones who are willing to help not only at home but also on school. Working well together benefits learners the most. The parents, whom learners look up, play a vital role in the pupils’ achievement.

It takes two to tango. The left foot is the TEACHER. The right foot is the PARENT. Together, they can dance to the tune of quality education for the sake of learners
