Parents have strong influence on children’s academic motivation and achievement. They are their children’s first teachers. Even when children start going to school, parents continue being their teacher. The school does not teach everything. Parents are the great learning resources and the motivators for their children, not their friends, not the media, no one; nothing can substitute the parents as a teacher.
Nowadays, the number of parents who give 100% support to their children’s education seems to decrease. Most parents give attention to the financial needs of their children. Some have their personal yayas to attend to their children on their behalf. These busy parents neglect to follow-up the conduct, attitudes and behaviour of their children towards their studies. Only few parents have time to attend homeroom PTA meetings of their children and other school activities where presence of parents is needed.
Children with supportive parents often get high scores in their tests. Also parents with high regards for education will help motivate their children. This attitude will inspire their children to perform better in school. Parents who are well educated would like their children to be the same.
For those children who are having difficulties in school, parents should confer with the teacher on how to overcome them and how to help their children. This will make the partnership of Parents and teachers stronger to eliminate ignorance.
Parents always want the best for their children. The high tuition fees, school materials, clean uniforms, new shoes and nutritious snacks are not enough to support the education of their children. Quality time in helping their child in their assignments and projects, availability in watching school programs and attending PTA meetings are as important as their material needs. If the children are aware that their parents are watchful of their education then they will do their best to succeed.
