The Philippines is well-known as a refinement ground for boxing talent. The successful career of Sen. Manny Pacquiao, now a universal sporting icon, undoubtedly represents the jewel in the crown of boxing in the Philippines. In a very real sense, his success has placed Filipino boxing talent in the global spotlight.
In this regard, he is more than the only eight-division world champion in the history of boxing. Some of his achievements are being a senator, military reservist, professional basketball player, TV and movie actor, film producer, documenter and religious advocate. But more than anything else are his charity works.
Regarded as “People’s Champ”, he is undoubtedly a real-life superhero. He used his own money to build schools, churches, houses and hospitals. Recently, he donated COVID-19 testing kits, protective equipment and buses for the health workers.
His boxing skills brought him to the public’s attention, but it’s his kindness, humanity, generosity and willingness to put the best interests of his countrymen above all have made him an icon worthy of admiration.
We are all given the same time to spend every day, but the manner in which we are going to use it determines the end. It is always our choice to choose from multiple of chances and breaks which will govern the results. For instance, we are now in the middle of pandemic, and students are given the opportunity to answer module at home. It is therefore their choice to honestly accomplish modules or not. At the end of the day, we are the ones to make our future. To be a people’s champ or people’s chump.
