Post observation, also known as post conference is a heart to heart interaction between the teacher and the observer – usually the school heads. In this phase both parties review and assess how the teaching and learning took place. These should be done right after the class observation (if possible) or within the day wherein the teaching – learning process is still fresh on the mind of the teacher and the observer.

Conferencing is an important supervisory technique in the specific improvement of instruction. If correctly employed, it gives a special help needed to become proficient in self – analysis, self – appraisal and self – improvement. (Instructional Supervision: Standards, Procedures and Tools, 2010).

Often, teachers were not at ease when the time of post conference occurs; it simply because we teachers may have fear that the observer is a fault – finder. This mind set should be avoided for there is a quotation says “there is always a room for improvement” and observer are there to lend a helping hand.

Benefits of Teacher on Post Conference

Teachers who are being observed and undergone post conference benefits in many ways. These include but not limited to:

  • Establish rapport with the observer
  • Review the strategies used if it really works and suitable for the kind of learners
  • Recognize his strengths as facilitator of learning
  • Receive constructive feedback from observer
  • Identify the weakness or the area that needs to be improved
  • Find solutions together with the observer on the weakness/problems
  • Learn new strategies from the observer
  • Understand the role of supervisor and welcomes another supervision

Everything discussed during the post conference should not end on that time and on that place. The strengths commended by the observer shall be continued and the agreed solutions to the part that needs improvement shall be performed.
