As one of the authors say, “There is no successful school without the successful leadership of a principal behind it.”
School is the heart of formal educational system, which aims on providing the best possible basic education for all, where children learn.
As stated in Section 2 of the Republic Act 9155, known as the Governance of Basic Education, the primary goal of basic education is to provide all Filipino children free education that will develop their skills, knowledge, and values needed to become caring, self-reliant, productive, and patriotic citizens. With this, a school leader, the school principal must empower students and teachers in teaching and learning for the achievement of the educational goal.
To achieve this goal, school principal is one of the key persons for developing Filipino pupils through their proper management and guidance. Their leadership performance is needed to fulfill their commitment to work and to their day-to-day demands of the workplace-the school.
According to Dr. Fe Hidalgo, “as chief officer in the school, the principal is the most important and influential individual in any school. Her leadership sets the tone of the school, the climate for learning, the level of professionalism and morale of teachers and the degree of concern for what students may or may not become. School principals are responsible for the smooth and efficient running of the school finances, personnel, the delivery of quality education, integrating and aligning the curriculum and ensuring curriculum efficiency and regularly evaluating, enriching and updating the curriculum.”
