D.E.A.R. stands for “Drop Everything and Read” which is designed to remind folks of all ages to make reading a priority activity in their lives.Project “Dear Reader” provides pupils with much more than a just-sit-there-and-read experience. The goal of this program is to prompt pupils to make reading a regular part of their routine whether they’re reading solo or together with their classmates, parents, or friends. It gives the teacher a structured time to touch base with each pupil over a period of time, assess progress, and target instruction. Even more important, it gives pupils time to read what they want to read, share what they’ve read, and receive the support they need for further reading explorations and reflections.

In this activity, pupils are instructed by their teachers to read books and other reading materials. The words and content should be carefully selected to reflect contemporary language usage.  Through this, the teachers can determine if there are students who struggled with decoding and don’t have focus much attention on meaning. Therefore, to get the most out of Reading Success, the teachers have made sure that the pupils will not be struggled in reading. The children’s receptive language skills, such as vocabulary, and listening comprehension will be developed if the program is properly implemented. Even more important, it gives students time to read what they want to read, share what they’ve read, and receive the support they need for further reading explorations and reflections.
