The home and the school have an equal share of responsibility in the problem of drop outs among our school children. In most cases, a high percentage of drop-out happens in different schools.

            Some parents are indifferent towards the educational progress of their children. They want their children to help with the household chores. Some even pressure their children to work in order to eat. Children quit school because of the attitudes of parents.

            Majority of Filipino people are still poor. Indigent pupils cannot buy materials needed like papers, notebooks, ballpen, and other materials. Children quit school because of poverty. Parents often crave greener pasture. If a change comes to improve their economic status, they transfer to another place and their children quit school because of change of residence.

            Before the parents attempt to enroll their children, the first thing they consider is the distance of school from the home. If the school is too far, the children find the long hike tiring and they drop. Children quit school because of distance from school.

            The poor physical health of pupil is most important in causing drop outs. Children quit school because of illness. There is some instance that the teacher and the school are also considered factors why a pupil quit school.
