Educational leadership of the present generation must revisit the leadership traits that are expected from school administrator and imbibe them in realizing the job as an educational manager.

 

A great educational leader must manifest the following attributes needed in order to become successful in the current position.

 

Be a visionary.  A successful educational leader must have an ideal vision for its school.  There should be a clear sense of purpose to be attained and a vivid picture of the future must be formulated.

 

Be courageous.  A great leader must show determination, willpower and patience in facing the challenges to see things through.  A successful leader must be willing to take the risks and steadfast in order to reach and attain school objectives and aspirations.

 

Be passionate.  A successful educational leader must have a passion in achieving the educational ultimate goal. A successful school leader is passionate about teaching and learning and show great commitment for the sake of the learners. He or she shows an active interest in their pupils’ activities and that of the teachers.

 

Be emotionally intelligent.  A successful educational leader is a team builder.  He/she understands the importance of relationship empowers teachers and learners and shows them empathy.

 

            Be a wise judge.  A successful educational leader exhibits great judgment, produces the right calls and is a wise head.  It is not solely acting alone but involving the entire community in giving decisions.

 

Be resilient.  A successful educational leader must be resilient, remaining strong and calm most especially during the time of crisis.  He/she knows the best strategies to be utilized in various situations that may impede the school’s benefits.

 

Be persuasive.  A successful educational leader is a confident communicator and storyteller.  He/she motivates his/her subordinates in the execution of their respective jobs and in releasing the best in them.

 

Be curious.  A successful educational leader must have curiosity with all the events.  He/she must have an eye and ear for what is happening around.  He/she must have an inquisitive mind and sensitive heart in searching for the truth.

 

By means of having these advantageous traits, a successful leader may be yielded.
