Philippines truly move closer to other Asian countries, more so in education. Our government is making every step, a step for progress. Fortunate are today’s generation, they were able to go with the flow of global changes.
The K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum which requires every Filipino child to study from Kinder to Grade 12 adds a new challenge not only to the Philippine government specifically to the Department of Education but more importantly to the teachers, parents and the students themselves. More than a couple of year to study basic education before they could embark a new chapter of their student’s life… the college days.
What’s up with the additional years, Grades 11 and 12? It might be an added financial responsibility for the parents but it will surely bring back those finances once the student applied their learnings in school. Eleven and twelve graders will specialize on their chosen academic or technical vocational tracks which the school offers. The community through the linkages made by the school will assist and accept the on-the job trainees for the actual application of the theories they have acquired in their formal class. It will be nurtured by the corresponding business partners as they will be given the opportunity to explore the real world of their endeavor.
The constant follow-up of the school administrators together with their mentors will further hone the skills and talent of the senior high schoolers as they give constructive criticism on their output, work attitude, and their total practicum performance. This will enable them to improve more and finally be confident enough to compete with those in the business community.
As early as this, the soon to be senior high schoolers in school year 2016-2017 can choose from the different Academic Track such as Accountancy, Business and Management Strand ( ABM ), Humanities and Social Sciences Strand ( HUMSS ) Science,Technology Engineering and Mathematics Strand ( STEM ), General Academic Strand ( GAS ) Sports Track and Arts & Design Track. For the Technical – Vocational Livelihood ( TVL ) Track students may choose form the following, Agri-Fisheries Arts ( AFA ), Information & Communication ( ICT ), Industrial Arts ( IA ), and Home Economics ( HE ). Various tracks in TVL are offered depending on the result of the survey conducted among the present grade niners.
Student’s chosen track/career may lead them to a successful business years in their life which may serve as their springboard to open doors for other opportunities such as enroll in college or start a business in their own.
