As they say, life is not always rainbows and butterflies, sometimes it’s rainbows and bother-flies.

From a 2017 article brought about by World Atlas, for each person on Earth, there are 17 million house flies. This much; and with the increase of human population also came the expansion of fly population. This became out of hand. Now everybody is worried sick. “Yung awang-awa ka sa mga batakasinakikitamomaiinis na din sila sa langaw…mga perwisyo.,” Manny Dela Cruz, a resident of Samal, Bataan exclaimed in a facebook post, voicing his concern on this langaw dilemma.

House fly eggs are laid in moist materials and almost any warm water that can appropriate supply the foods for the larvae. And actually, that’s not the problem. Not that fly family ballooning but the water mismanagement in esteros and canals.

In nature they’re won’t do any harm but what makers them unsafe is the environment they are exposed to. The inconsistent waste disposal and unmanaged garbage, both liquid and solid from households, factories and different commercial infrastructures. Because they tend to clutter themselves to the bacteria and germs of dirt, their human contact can be very dangerous to one’s health.

And in the peak of our country’s musty scraps and untidiness, this now became a major bother in all regions. Bataan as a prime example wherein citizens in the locality blurt out social media complaints to the current fly predicament that disturbs everyone of any age especially the ones in the marginalized sector of the society.

Thankfully, various measures such as waste disposal and management and poultry monitoring were undertaken to remedy the problem. Mayor Aida Macalinao emphasized the importance of proper waste management in Samal, Bataan and called upon the attention of Operation Managers, the Municipal Sanitary Inspectors, MENRO Chairman, Mdc Chairman and barangay captains in their meeting on formulizing solutions for the problem on the excessive langaw in the municipality.

Let’s take this one step ahead of the flies. There’s hope still, there are rainbows still, and the overall chromatics will be better with the colors not of the bother-flies but of the butterflies.
