Values are imposed to all learners from their family throughout their early childhood and reinforced in school by teaching a quality of being a good person in accordance with their culture and life experiences. Teaching students to learn what is most essential and useful in the real world can be shown by being a role model for them, by creating a caring environment, by teaching them to be accountable for their mistakes, by encouraging them to help others, by sharing personal experiences and many others.
To develop good moral values among children, the role of teachers is vital in shaping their lives. Hence, values formation has been the compass of interest and essential to become an authentic human being. It is the instrument that can be used in guiding learners to walk on the right track.
The role of educators in molding children’s behavior to be responsible, productive, empowered, and successful individuals is really challenging. How the teachers treat them in school could have a long-lasting effect, whether it be positive or negative.
Nevertheless, values education is the responsibility of all and not just of schools. The ideal contexts to teach ethical principles to all children should also be done by their family and other people that are always with them. Further, every individual should know how to put himself/herself in other people’s shoes both cognitively and emotionally. For this to be possible, the educational community will need to support the teachers, as children may be receiving contradictory messages in the home and other places.
Therefore, all of us are responsible in performing our duties as educators, counselors, and role models with full awareness of the consequences on the lives of our children. Thus, everybody should work together to ensure a nurturing and safe environment for all learners.
