They say that the foundation of a certain nation lies on the core values of its people.  In connection with this, it is the responsibility of the state to instill the basic human values that will shape the nation and its human resources.

In our country in particular, the Department of Education through its teachers, the realization of inculcating these important core values will be made possible.  It is a must today that these values be completely and fully implanted in order to produce better graduates who are not only provided with knowledge but also of enviable values as well.

Here are the human values that we need to revitalize which will be beneficial to our learners who will soon be the builders of the society:

Honesty.  This is a very significant value that an individual must possess.  Being honest or truthful in words and in deeds will create a better person of the society.

Generosity.  Being generous will promote sharing of what we have to our fellowmen.  Teaching our students to contribute what they have to other is being humane and caring.

Respect.  Being respectful is an attribute that connotes consideration and acceptance of the totality of the person that is accepting his thoughts, his words, his deeds and his appearance.

Freedom. Teach the child the value of liberty.  But tell him that freedom commands a great responsibility.  It should be a freedom that hurts no one and conforms to the rules of the society.

Equality.   Educate the learners that all of us are equal.  We are all human beings and with this we all have  the rights and opportunities in this world.

Courage.  Teach the child to be courageous.  Tell him to be brave in telling and doing the righteous things.  Upholding what is good and moral is the best thing for him to do.

These values will be instrumental in molding better Filipinos.  These can be taught not only in Character or Values Education but can also be integrated in various subject areas.

Good values are really essential now-a-days, in the midst of modernization where most of the young Filipinos are influenced by foreign ways and attitudes.  It is the great responsibility of the school particularly the teachers to strengthen and further inspire the learners of these amiable traits for them to become a better citizen of the country and of the world.
