“All work and No play make Johnny a dull boy…” this is a line from a well-known nursery rhyme. It is a mantra that is so used and worn-out that it almost sounds cliché.
But it is true none the less. Humans have the natural tendency to malfunction if overworked, but the rate seems higher in the younger populations. This is why schools held annual events and activities that can alter the pattern of the study calendar.
Some of the most celebrated are the nutrition month in June, Linngo ng Wika in August, Intramurals or sports festivals, acquaintance party, Christmas party in December, Proms in February and the list can go on. But not all schools allow such events specially parties and proms. Saying that it only serves as destruction from what is really important; which arethe academic curriculum.
But school activities are more than just lavish events. The reality is that such events actually serve more purpose than we might want to think.
School activities, say intramurals for example, not only promote sportsmanship and healthy life style but it stimulates other abilities and talents of students. During this event different booth are constructed, giving students a chance to showcase what they can do besides solving math problems and balancing science equations. The cheesy dedication booth enhances the students’ self-esteem and public speaking skills. Jail-booth and prison booth builds the students sense of authority and leadership. Plays and productions polish their creativity and artistry.
On the other hand, parties and proms enrich the students’ social skills and their ability of handling crowds. It also boosts the students’ self-expression and freedom of style.
Events like Linggo ng Wika, nutrition month and such serves its aim as to promote the awareness of the students about the events theme.
It is true that planning and organizing school events is not an easy pit, and can be bit costly, but thinking of all the positive impacts that these events can bring, it is all worth it.
