School attendance is a baseline factor in determining student success.  How important is it for students/pupils to be in school?

Attendance is important.  One of the things to remember is the student importance of learning.  Students are more likely to succeed in academics when they attend school regularly.  If a student is not constantly at school, the student may not be able to catch up with new lessons and it could very well affect their achievement in school.  It’s difficult for the teacher and the class to build their skills and progress if a large number of students are frequently absent.  Students who are not in school on a regular basis are more likely to get into trouble as cause problems in their community.

To achieve high attendance rates parents, school leaders and community members should work together to focus on reducing absences and keeping kids in school.  Make the school a place where parents and students feel welcome.  Call parents when their children are not in school to let them know the teacher is concerned.
