Nutrition has long identified as a critical component to learning and development of a child. Children who do not receive adequate nutrition may have low energy and trouble in concentration, which can certainly affect kinder learning. In addition, malnutrition can also affect a child physical growth and development.

Millions of Filipino children go to school with an empty stomach according to WFP. Deped comes up with the program SBFP to help reduced the number of malnourish children.

The feeding program targets the restoration of at least 70% beneficiaries to their normal nutritional status and the improvement of classroom attendance and their performance. And part of the goal is to educate families about health and nutrition, so that they could sustain the progress children have made during the school feeding program. Nevertheless, it has a deworming program in partnership with the local municipality or barangay health center.

Hence, school cannot feed them forever but with the help of private sectors, LGU’s even parents, I do believe that schoolfeeding programs will further improved in the succeeding years and more students will benefit. Teachers, school-heads, school administrators are calling on everyone to support the program.
