READING Skills is the most fundamental part on Education. It also plays an important role in the lives of every person. If you don’t read you are missing out on a great means of learning as well as a wonderful way of developing your life. Books can educate, inform, entertain, motivate and inspire. This is a simple and relatively low-cost way of growing as a person. Drawing on the wisdom of the ages, books cover every subject you can imagine. Reading is one of the most important building blocks of literacy that is why schools have a special place where child can read, the library. Although we are at the computer age, where the use of internet is prevalent, a library full of educational books is still the best starting point especially for elementary pupils to learn the art of reading. A library, reading corner in the classroom is indispensable tool in the education of young. Thus a reading corner was established in every classroom in Arsenal Elementary School with aim to enhance the academic performance of the pupils and for them to learn the art of READING.
The primary propose of reading corner must contain good reading materials suited for the readers it will cater. There are printed materials that are informative and interesting. There are also teaching aids and devices for reading instruction. The books and instructional materials that can be found in the reading corner are ensured to be beneficial to the reading habits of the pupils. There are also valuable reference books which teachers and pupils are used. Interesting story books booth English and Filipino is well loved by the pupils especially in primary level. Educational magazines and informative news paper are also including in the school’s instructional reading materials for the reading corner. There are informational texts which are defined in reading for children. Motivating teaching aids of reading are also incorporated in the reading corner. The wide selection of teaching aids for reading lesson also includes; pictures, flashcards, charts and puzzles which are still capable of motivating the young learners.
