The new school year starts, and teachers are once again at the forefront of the school’s struggle to have goals which can make or break the agenda set for the new academic year.  How do we craft goals which will work for the school system?

To summarize, goals should be SMARTER to make them work.

Specific.  The goal should be properly defined and clear on what to do.

Measurable.  The school goal should know how much to do.

Attainable.  It is not a question of feasibility but of possibility.

Result-oriented.  Will the goal have an impact in the school?

Time-bounded.  The parameters should be defined as to its start and end.

Energizing.  Will the goal challenge and stretch the capacities of the

                      stakeholders?

Rewarding.  Will the goal be worth all the sacrifices of the people involved in its

                      attainment?

A smart goal is laudable, but a SMARTER is definitely more acceptable.
