Former President DiosdadoMacapagalonce said that “The strength of the nation lies in the well-being of the common man.” This line is related to what social science offers to us Filipinos as we study this course in our schools.

Studying social has a lot of benefits to our educational clientele.  To mention:

Revisiting the past events.  Through social science subjects, the students will have a grasp of the past significant moments that happened in our history.  It is a great advantage that we have a picture of the events that transpired in our society.

Recalling great people.  It is indeed very awe-inspiring to recall the people who shaped our history.  These are the well-known and unsung heroes who became instrumental in gaining our independence, development and progress.  They can only be seen in social science.

Identifying significant dates.  There are important dates in social science that we have to remember since these signify a lot of memories which our ancestors marked with their heroism and significance.

Distinguishing the people’s attributes.  It is better if we have a picture of the characteristics of the people who contributed in attaining progress in our country as conveyed by social science.

Identifying the cause of changes. We have to know the reasons behind the change that happened in our society.  The information that social science produces will give the causes. There are causes that led to achieve the change that we have now.

Distinguishing the keys to progress.  There are means or ways which are ancestors utilized in order to achieve development which directed to progress in our society.  Knowing the strategies would help us become better.

Determining the success or failure. The success or failure of the undertakings in the past should be traced.  In this way, we would be able to gain success again and avoid failure.

Learning from the mistakes.  To gauge the mistakes is instrumental in extracting the lessons from the events in our history. These mistakes will lead us not to commit them again and to do better.

These will all be attained if a student learns in social science.
