According to Wikipedia, socialization is the primary means by which human infants begin to acquire the skills necessary to perform as functioning member of their society, and is the most influential learning processess one can experience.
It is important to socialize. It is inevitable to every human being. It is in fact one of the keys to success. It is through socialization that we can learn and understand other people. It is through socialization by which we will be able to know our role, status and responsibility at home, in school and community. A child’s socialization skills came from his/her home and continue to enrich as he grows and begin to go to school. It is also at home where a child learns his values, attitude and behavior. The school only continues to enrich and refine these values. From the beginning, a parent’s role is crucial in developing a child’s socialization skills. But as a teacher and a second parent to a child while in school, it is our responsibility to develop among them how to socialize effectively with others.
In school, a child needs to socialize not only to his/her classmates but also to other people whom he comes in contact with. If a child has a problem mingiling with other people, certainly he will find it hard to make friends. It he doesn’t have friends, he will always be alone and lonely and in the end will find studying boring and will result to having low grades. In this situation, a teacher should provide varied learning activities that calls for interaction, an activity that will engage everybody in the class to work with one another. In this way, a child may regain his enthusiasm to learn and will have friends in the long run. Cooperative learning will be very beneficial to both teacher and pupils. It not only helps a pupil to learn from one another but it also adds spice to the lesson.
A child, who socializes more, learns more. That is why socialization has a big impact on child’s academic performance. A child who has a very healthy social life will find peace and pleasure with other people and eager to learn more with others. As the saying goes, “No man is an island”.
