There were many billion people running around this planet. Too many talented people searching for their right places, people who waits for their chances that will change their entire lives. Today our youth as a product of the 20th century were very visible in demonstrating their emotions, dreams, skills etc. These people, who wear an invisibility cloak, fight for their own place in this world. Most of them have their unique talents and abilities.
Every day, we are drowned in the sea of people running along the busy streets of the metro. Suffocated by tall buildings that look like giant armors blocking the way to a better and brighter future.Trapped in the rays of the sun that once gave us hope and strength.
Good thing, the Department of Education (DepEd) in year 2001 launched in the Special Program in the Arts (SPA) to continuously upgrade its various program and curricula. This nationwide program was implemented nationwide in all public institution. It aims to foster the potentials of artistically-inclined students. Through this program, students in secondary level with special inclination in the field of music, visual arts, theater arts, creative writing, media arts and dance have the opportunity to express their ideas through their chosen art forms.
This curriculum innovation is the creation of a change and innovative culture that provides students to be more creative, self-directed, talented individuals and to become knowledge workers in the global market, thus, it was launched to prepare students for a wide range of challenging careers, not only for careers in the arts. (Sebastian, 2012)
All over the country, public secondary schools are offering the SPA curriculum. It is designed not only to develop the skills and talents of the students. It also creates opportunities for students to develop positive peer and adult relationships. It is a unique experience for them to learn in an educational, inspirational and exciting environment.
With this, students became aware of the things that they can do and never thought that expressing oneself will be as happy as this. It is like being free from the cage where you grew up. They feel like a book open for everyone, transparent as a glass. And through this, our country may have a greater chance of producing more competent and globally competitive individuals.
