In the middle of COVID-19 pandemic, millions of lives around the world have been badly affected, thousands have died and hundreds of countries have been struggling. Many people have been doing their best to help in fighting this unseen opponent. Doctors in particular are the front liners. But before these doctors have been known to be the modern heroes, one doctor had the utmost courage to take the risk to spread his discovery about a certain virus very similar to SARS Virus, a global epidemic on 2003.
That doctor was Li Weliang, who eventually died because of COVID-19. Dr. Li’s death opened the eyes of the world to consider him as a hero. His proactive undertakings on his discovery paved the way for China and other countries to have immediate action. If not of his early information on the COVID-19, many lives and businesses around the globe would have been gravely affected.
Many times in our lives we know of something we keep in ourselves because we don’t want to be in trouble or face another circumstances. We want to live a peaceful life, but would it give us peace we don’t speak up? Let us all be courageous to stand for the truth, take the risk and act proactively especially if this could help and save millions of lives.
In this lieu, being a teacher opens door of awareness to different discoveries regarding our students. We tend to see their weaknesses, potentials, and strengths, wherein we could play significant roles as motivator, developer, and manager. In consideration of multiple intelligences as stipulated by the theory of learning by Dr. Howard Gardner of Harvard University, every child has different skills and intelligence in which they could excel with proper support and care. Teachers are in particular big factor to be responsible to cater these multiple intelligences by discovering through diagnoses and assessment, and as the learning process goes on, give appropriate activities and learning experience through differentiated instructions, contextualization, localization and indigenization.
The ability to discovery is both a gift and a skill. Let us make sure to utilize it the best way possible. A salute to all the great discoverers, teachers, doctors and influencers around the world.
