In the midst of change brought by the new curriculum in the field of education in the Philippines, science teachers should not be pessimistic and reactive instead science teachers should be proactive in order to yield excellence in teaching.

To be a proactive science teacher you need to follow basic standards.  These are not difficult to follow instead these will make your life as science teacher easier and better.

Standard 1. Be positive.

Changes are not here to disrupt your work as a science teacher instead they are given to improve the teaching of the subject.  On the other hand, be positive on the way you deal with students, always think that their future lies on you so you have to give them the best and quality science education.

Standard 2. Be hands on.

As a proactive teacher, you have to be on guard to your students that is you have to constantly watch their development and progress.  Be a helping hand in times of their confusions and difficulties in dealing with the subject and be one with them in their triumph of discoveries.

Standard 3. Be vigorous.

As part of the standard, a science teacher should be strong enough to face the huge responsibility in educating the youth of the present generation.  Be forceful and enthusiastic enough to face the challenges in teaching.

Standard 4. Be practical.

As a proactive science teacher, you need to be practical in teaching the subject.  As much as possible you need to be relevant in teaching the subject.  Moreover, you have to relate the subject to the outside world.

Standard 5. Be open to challenges.

Facing a new curriculum is not so easy.  Being a proactive science teacher you need to embrace the changes coming around and accept the challenges in the profession.

Standard 6. Be constructive.

You have to avoid negativity in teaching the subject.  Even problems come along the way and mistakes are done, be able to be constructive and lead them to the right direction to rectify their errors. 

Standard 7. Be suggestive.

As a proactive science teacher, you need to suggest better ways for learning.  Be able to suggest the easiest ways to learn and introduce activities which would deepen learning and will intensify their interest on the subject.

Standard 8. Be open-minded.

Being open-minded is very essential.  As a proactive science teacher, you need to understand the nature of your students and be able to adjust in order to win their attention and interest.

Standard 9. Be progressive.

Be progressive that is as a science teacher you keep on evolving yourself. You need to improve your abilities.  Have your craft and prowess be redefined.

Standard 10. Be innovative.

As a proactive science teacher nowadays you need to be on the right track and this is to present innovation in teaching.  To be innovative is to reinvent your styles and methods in teaching the learners.

Follow these standards and be a proactive science teacher!
