Supervision is concerned with the improvement of the curriculum and instruction through program design and practice, better quality of teaching and learning, and optimal development of every pupil, it is understandable that supervisory services should be provided to teachers. They must be given opportunities to:

  1. increase their capabilities;
  2. refine skills;
  3. update knowledge in their fields;
  4. improve the perception of pupil behaviour and learning; and
  5. keep abreast of the new development in evaluation

Supervisory practices, are channelled to teachers as a means of implementing the school objectives and promoting teachers growth as a means of implementing the school objectives and promoting teachers growth to retain quality education.

Some best known means and vehicles of supervision are:

Teacher meetings, conferences, study groups and workshops, participation in professional organization, institutes and clinics, demonstration, visitations, bulletins and publications, the use of microteaching and simulations.
