When we say mathematics, we were most familiar with the study of numbers. We use math in everyday of our lives. As if we were counting, measuring or computing.
Thus, mathematics has much more than that. It is the study of relations or even proportions in we compare different things with one another. It also deals with operations as applied to simplest numbers and also includes more complicated numbers. The mathematics taught in elementary schools deals with operations and procedures that ate useful in every field including everyday life.
We learn different math ideas as we engage in challenging problems that we encounter. We build our understanding as we work, interact and share ideas with one another. We use our higher order thinking skills as we try and perform different operations or procedures in solving problems and we look for its relevance and usefulness. We deeper our knowledge as we acquired and connect learning to other disciplines and everyday experiences. We enrich our self as we work on challenging activities that will extend better understanding of math.
Surfing the world of math will build self-confidence. We think and apply the understanding. And experience growth and success in doing mathematics with proper blend of content, applications and usefulness that can be applied in real-life situation.
