Giving advice and support to help people to deal with their problems and to deal with important decisions is part of counseling and one of the best persons who can do this is none other than a teacher…a brilliant adviser.

Through counseling the emotional, social, developmental, and structural factors that affect learning will be guided by the teacher. The teacher can touch one’s heart, can direct the person’s actions, can assist in one’s development, and can build one’s self-esteem and character.

Through the teacher-counselor, the emotional problems in school could be resolved like problems in academics, peer pressure, problem with superiors and the like.  Because of the advice given by the teacher, the child would ease emotional burdens and difficulties will thenbe finally relieved.

A child who may be in need to be directed in terms of actions could be assisted by the teacher in order to develop good manners and right conduct. It is very important that the learner should be well-taught to make him realize his mistakes and rectify them for his goodness.

Also through counseling, a learner will be led in his development and eventually in progress. Along the way, the child will be supported by the teacher-counselor on the best things to do.  The step by step procedure will be attained through the teacher’s guidance and supervision.

Moreover, one’s character structure could be helped by counseling and its teacher-agent will instil the essence of morality and brilliant norms to be imbibed by the learner.

In the widest sense, counselingissues may be dealing with the learner’s identity, culture, motivation, well-being, socialization, psychological interventions, learning, social development, learning environments.  These are very difficult to face but the teacher can still find ways to perform the vital role of a counselor in line with these varied situations.

Realistically, every single day in the life of a teacher, challenging roles are being accomplished in line with counseling. Though it is an additional job, the teacher never gives up and pleasantly executes the role of being a guidance counselor in the classroom… doing it for the benefit of the dear learners who truly need support or assistance.

In the real scenario, the teacher should be ready enough to understand the learners in the broadest sense for these learners possess different personalities and belong to different families.

Aside from teaching, the teacher should be willingly be a guidance counselor to further shape and sharpen the deeds and character of the present generation composed of young minds who deserve to be well-guided.

Facing this great challenge is not easy but for sure a teacher can make it with flying colors and be successful in this undertaking.
