Lenten Season is getting near, others called it Holy Week, wherein the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ has been recalled, remembered and reminisced.

As teacher, idea strikes my mind about the similarities of a teacher to the death and resurrection of Jesus. For teachers, the “death” starts in March, wherein he/ she will have a preview, which aspect does she/ he is lacking regarding preparation or what are the things to do to improve his/ her way of teaching. One way of showing humility to do all that can be of help for the learning of each student, though it may mean hard work, suffering and sacrifice her. Hard work, because even if it is her/ his vacation, she/ he is already preparing a program for her upcoming student. Suffering and sacrifice because even if it is a day of rest for her/ him and those days could have been spent to herself and to her/ his family, but then it will be instead in attending seminars and trainings to become an efficient teacher.

For teacher, there “resurrection” happens in June. Class opening to a new school year lies a second chance. A new life, as teachers, which face and welcome new sets of students, covered by new knowledge, developed abilities and a positive vision or outlook. The teacher is now ready to face the youth, who is thirsty of knowledge, which complete a classroom.

Maybe this time, we should take a look and mediate these questions: Teachers are we ready with 3T’s?

• Teacher, whose mind is ready to share his/ her thoughts (Teaching Minds)
• Teacher, whose heart is ready to love the lovable or even the unlovable student (Teaching Heart)
• Teacher, who is ready to invest time for the transformation of our youths (Transforming lives)

TEACHER WHOSE MIND IS READY TO SHARE KNOWLEDGE. In this time we should bear in our minds that as a teacher we are facilitator. We should let interaction in our student and teacher.  We should emphasize the “hows” and not the “what” of knowledge. Every student should have participation and not the teachers only.

TEACHER WHOSE HEART IS READY TO LOVE EVEN THE UNLOVABLE STUDENT. Give student with fair treatment. Example, student wearing slippers and the other is wearing well- shined shoes. Love both the kind and the mean student. Maybe this kind of situation is due to family problem he/ she is facing facing/ experiencing. Love the most those students with special needs and not only the bright or intelligent one.

TEACHER, WHO IS WILLING TO GIVE TIME / EFFORT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF OUR YOUTH. Now that we are in the era of modern technology and global changes, several changes also took place in the mind of our youth. A teacher also serves as an instrument in showing the changes to better learning for brighter future, wherein it can be of help in personal development, family progress, and development in our society and progress in our country as well.
