The responsibility given to the teachers may be difficult because of the many expectations the public demands from them. But if only they will perform their duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Code of Conduct for teachers, then and only then, can we say, “Teachers are role model today, tomorrow and forever.”

Many teachers are equipped with volumes of commendable values. However, it appears that they are predisposed to be satisfied or dissatisfied because they differ in their dispositions as they enter organizations. Some are optimistic which result in psychological withdrawal like daydreaming on their job and physical withdrawl such as unauthorized absences, early departure, extended breaks or slow down or even over acts of aggression in retaliation for presumed wrongs. The displayed negatively redounds to low production and deterrent in the quest for quality of education.

Try to examine yourselves. Where do you belong? This is the challenging question that merits rethinking; if all concerned cling to a vast spectrum of values that influence and govern their conducts and decisions. Some of these values shall be double- checked to enable teachers to see if they have rendered weak rather than strong character, if they have negative rather than positive dispositions, or if they have become discordant rather than logical and meaningful.

The role of the teachers in nations building can never be under- estimated. They share a greater bulk of responsibility in molding the minds of the leader of tomorrow. They serve as second parents and models in school.

As role models, they must project good public image worthy of emulation. They must manifest dedication, sincerity, dignity, professionalism, simplicity and self respect. They must also have respect for people, faith in their intelligence and the willingness to enter into human relations on the basis of equality, the give and take relationship with peers and/ or co-workers, parents and citizens.
