Few weeks from now another School Year will unfold for students, parents and most especially for teachers. Both beginning teachers or old ones are once again worried of so many things like, Will I be assigned with excess loads? “ Will I carry the school year right?” “ Will I earn the respect of my co-workers?” or most importantly” Will I encounter students who are pond of bullying?” Or more importantly, “Will I get along well with my homeroom PTA?”
The above questions are the common apprehensions that serve as jitters on
the first day of school for the new and veteran teachers as well. But before the school opening starts, the Editorial Staff of tht Educators Magazine offers a guideline to follow if a new or a veteran teacher earnestly wants to start school right. Most of the given tips given are learned through years of experience while some are acquired through sheer common sense:
- 1.Create an environment of security and consistency. Make the students feel welcome the moment they enter the room by keeping it well-organized andWell polishes furniture and surfaces, aligned desks and chairs, sufficient lightings and ventilation, all these add up to the room’s being conducive for study
- 2.Express Welcome. Teachers must be aware that some students feel intimidated, so teachers must see to it that the environment is not stiff and formal, rather turn the classroom into a festive event.
- 3.Be the Perfect” Host” Report. To work earlier than normal not only to be able to attend the Flag Ceremony but most importantly to be able to use the extra time to prepare better the classroom. Greet the students with a smiling face just outside the door before they enter.
- 4.Be friendly.Call your students by their first name. The sweetest music to ones ear is to hear your teacher to call a student by his/her first name
- 5.Euip Yourself. Plan for the lesson for theCheck your strategies, approaches, methods, procedures and most of all the content of your lesson.
If the teacher can follow these simple tips , they will have the edge.
