1. To understand student learning needs.
2. Never be alone with a student in a closed room or classroom; leave the door open, or meet in a place with others around.
3. Doors should be locked whenever you leave your room.
4. Students should NEVER be left in a classroom without adult supervision or placed outside the classroom door unless in direct vision of the teacher.
5. If you have an emergency, send a monitor to get another adult to cover your class.
6. Do not give keys to the students.
7. Turn off lights whenever you leave your room.
8. Use air conditioning and heating when needed making certain that you close the doors to conserve energy.
9. General appearance of your room should always be neat and clean.
10. Maintenance or repair problems should be reported to the facilities manager. Report all problems immediately before they become big problems.
11. All requests or complaints regarding custodial services are to be made through the office in writing.
12. Care of furniture–students are responsible for clean desks. Damage should be reported to the office. The student may be required to pay for repair or replacement of damaged items.
13. You must keep all of the pathways in your classroom clear with no clutter as per the fire marshal.

The primary responsibility of the teacher is to supervise the children in her/his care. Wherever they may be on school, whether in the library, computer room or playground, your responsibility for their direct supervision remains. They cannot be left in the care of a parent, unless the parent is GPTA Officers certified. Please be constantly aware and vigilant in order to protect the safety and well-being of our students.
