The teaching profession heavily depends on educational assessment. It is a process whereby a teacher gathers information on a student’s performance and classroom activities using a variety of assessment approaches to determine if the pupils are meeting the stated instructional objectives. Primary teachers have faced significant difficulties in adapting their assessment methods to this new educational norm.

The teacher can decide if assessments and tactics are essential and desirable, begin changes to classroom assessment practices, and implement those changes. For instance, a lot of academics throughout the world are interested in this subject since evaluation is important for encouraging a culture of excellence in education and for creating lifelong learners. The results of assessments may give teachers information to help them improve their instruction, inspire students to learn, alter their study behaviors, change their attitudes, and encourage them to discover new interests and learning styles. Therefore, it is important to look at how primary teachers assess their students, especially in light of the new educational norm that has emerged. The K–12 curriculum intends to provide Filipinos with skills for the twenty-first century. Curriculum in the classroom must include assessment. In order to adjust lectures, teachers may monitor and evaluate students’ progress. Parents and learners are updated on the development of each student through classroom evaluations. For both teachers and students, distance learning necessitates complicated, authentic, and contextualized assessments. Conducting assessments while adhering to Covid-19 health standards and procedures has significant challenges, including limitations on immediate feedback and the need to take into consideration different situations when preparing, conducting, and grading assessment assignments (DepEd Order No. 31, s. 2020). The Basic Education-Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) requires adaptable legislative frameworks and assistance to get over the constraints imposed by the “new normal.” The program will be provided in a variety of forms and includes a revamped curriculum that incorporates the Essential Learning Competencies (DepEd Order No. 12, s. 2020). The term “New Normal” refers to a previously unheard of or unusual situation that is now normal, anticipated, or customary.

In order to give a top-notch education in the face of the pandemic, educators must completely accept the new normal and embrace significant changes in the educational system with regard to evaluation. In order to adequately monitor learners’ progress and offer the appropriate intervention, the main agencies’ legislative responsibilities for academic intervention for the long-term sustainability of teaching and learning within the educational system should continually improve assessment processes. Additionally, the Key Results Area (KRA) on assessment is a component of the 2022 Individual Performance Commitment and Review Form (IPCRF) for teachers, and it is equivalent to impacting teachers’ performance if they lack competent educational assessment knowledge and abilities.
