Reading instruction is considered the most pressing concern off every reading teacher .

          As the title of this article says : “ My students can read , but they cannot understand what they read “ .

          Indeed , this is what a teacher laments . It is really saddening that these students are not considered readers in the real sense of the word . For how can they be called readers when they cannot get meaning from the printed page .

          This problem in reading is now a national concern . Many sectors outside the field of education pledge to help in the education sector by focusing their initiatives on the improvement of reading performance of students .

          To name a few , we have  “ Sa Aklat Sisikat “ , which aims to develop the reading habit among the upper primary grade children . Reach Out and Read is an initiative among pediatricians to develop the love for reading among their young patients  .

          Good , we have these groups who help in furthering the improvement of reading instruction through readership and teacher – training .
