There are many things that beginning teachers should consider.  The greatest of them all is the preparation for a well- managed classroom. Most classrooms are “non-managed” as in most non-managed enterprises, they can become chaotic.  It is therefore advised that a classroom be run in such a way that chaos is anticipated and prevented before they actually occur. Such is the importance of classroom management.

A well-managed classroom promotes several characteristics.  First, it encourages deep involvement with academic work among students.  It also results to students being aware of what is expected of them, thus, preventing frustrations among the members of the class.

Off-task behavior will be lessened, there is relatively little wasted time, confusion and disruption in a well-managed classroom.  The classroom must be conducive to serious work and is relaxed and pleasant at the same time.

Teachers must have classroom procedures which state what you expect of students for them to take effectively in class activities.  Many classroom activities could take place simultaneously and efficiently during the school day through procedures.  They are positive pronouncements you issue that tell students how things operate in the classroom.

There are some procedures that teachers may adopt in the classroom: How to Enter and Leave the Classroom; Tardiness; Absences; Morning routine; When and how to be excused from classes; Listening and responding to questions; How to address the school authorities; Participation in class; how to leave the classroom; what to do when visitors enter the room; keeping the furniture orderly; what to do  the emergency sound alarms; moving around the room; and what to do when the teacher is out of the room.

A small reminder for you teachers; After preparing for the first few weeks of the school year and establishing a routine that  may carry you all throughout the school year, the first day finally arrives.  Take the lead. Everything will be smooth and relaxed.
