Most probably you may have read or heard the lines of Shakespeare which say “I can easily teach twenty what good to be done than to be one of the twenty following my own teaching.”We can relate this quotation to the present teaching-learning situation in the education sector here in our country. Teachers must be really up to date in their knowledge, and attitudes to go with the times.
The 21st century saw education undergoing scrutiny or being given reexamination. Some even dare to say. There will be lot of changes, there will be paradigm shift. One of the changes in education is the implementation of Department of Education(DepEd) Order No. 31 s. of 2012, otherwise known as Policy Guidelines On the Implementation of Grades 1 to 10 of the K to 12 basic Education Curriculum (BEC) Effective School Year 2012-2013. As stipulated in this curriculum, students are expected to demonstrate communicative competence, think intelligently, critically and creatively in life situations;make informed and values-based decisions; perform their civic duties; use resources sustainably; and participate actively in artistic and cultural activities and in the promotion of wellness and lifelong fitness.
As the former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo says, we in education sector, must not forget the relation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with a strong republic. She emphasized that through ICT, this strong republic school responds
to the needs of the remotest and most neglected barangays. They respond as well in the need for a holistic approach to some problems of our country. On the other hand, as Pefiancoputs it, in an increasingly sophisticated world where information has various applications and a corresponding economic value, it may be well to remind ourselves that information by itself needs to be applied in a specific human of social concern for it to have meaning.
The lifelong learning continuum is fast becoming borderless, embracing a lifelong dimensions, with the pace of the knowledge acquisition. With this in mind, teachers must not forget that equally important aptitudes and values are learned not only through the classroom as mediated by a teacher
