Technical Vocational Education is a good way to help students acquire skills which will make them eligible for employment. This kind of education is offered especially to those students who cannot pursue their studies in college. Through Tech-Voc Education, they will be equipped with the knowledge and skills essential to the kind of work or job they would want to apply to. Also, graduates under this program can be self-employed such as becoming an entrepreneur or putting up own business.

Our government through the Department of Education, in coordination with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) implemented DO 24,s. 2014-Guidelines on the Utilization of 2014 Schools Division Program Support Funds for Strengthened Technical Vocational Education Program (STVEP). Education Secretary Armin Luistro explained that the move to implement the STVEP was initiated by the Tech-Voc Task Force in line with the objectives of Education For All (EFA) global movement, the Philippines Millennium Development Goals, the Medium Term Philippine Development Plan, and the 10- point agenda of the Philippine government.

The STVEP, an effective way to address the problem of poverty, is designed to provide the utmost development of the individual as a total person equipped with technical- vocational and academic competencies, proper work ethics and desirable values that will make the person economically-stable, responsible, law-abiding, productive and competitive in the world of work.

As we are nearing the official start of the K to 12 program, DepEd continues to raise the quality of the Tech-Voc Program through the provision of competency-based curriculum, teacher’s training, acquisition of physical facilities, development of instructional materials, provision of manpower requirement, and other logistics support.

Aside from the skills that the students will be able to acquire, National Certificate (NC) or Certificate of Competency (COC) will be issued  to those who shall successfully demonstrate competence in specific qualifications. Such certificates shall be provided equivalent eligibility by the CSC. Theses certificates are helpful to those who cannot afford to study in college for they can already apply for a job or even put up a business. TVE prepares students for immediate employment after high school. It also complements the government’s program for economic recovery and social uplift. Thus, Technical Vocational Education promotes productive Senior High School graduates.
