The high regard for the teaching profession gave me an impetus to join the ranks of teachers.  Although there is no much financial gains in teaching, it is imbued with personal satisfaction and a sense of fulfillment when a pupil returns and gives unending thanks for what a teacher has imparted on him.  Those things are priceless in the heart and mind of a teacher.

However, there are still perils in the life of a teacher.  For one, a teacher is not licensed to commit mistakes.  In the eyes of the pupils, everything that a teacher gives them is right and correct.  Pupils absorb everything that comes out of a teacher’s mouth.  And it is unlikely for a teacher to teach something with an iota of error.  If she does, surely, it will come out of the school and spread like wildfire to everyone thus putting the integrity of a teacher in question.

In the community, a teacher needs to be a model to everyone.  A teacher is expected to be a mirror of all positive values.  At an instance that a teacher commit a tinge of negative value, the community reacts violently and endangers the future of a  teacher and puts a question to her personality.  People expect nothing from a teacher, but always the best and the highest standard of well-being.

A teacher’s life is always scrutinized by everyone.  A teacher remains on the watchful eyes of everyone until the end of time.

Despite these harsh realities, still, I am thankful for being a teacher.  Because I believe that I have imparted something positive to the lives of the people I met through the years I spent as one.  I am thankful because I believe that I have been a part of their lives.
