The benefits of music in the life of a pupil cannot be discounted and ignored.  Even educational researchers have ventured into the benefits of music in the learning capacity of the pupils.  One research on the subject even revealed that learning the do – re – mi’s can help pupils excel in their ABC’s.

Other studies pointed that learning music enhances the learning ability of pupils.  Their knowledge of music is used in other areas.  When a pupil sings, listens and moves, he develops a great progression in formal learning. That is because making music is more than just using the voice.  Learning music taps the multiple skills of the pupils.  Other faculties of learning are always involved in music such as the ears and eyes, as well as the muscles.

A musical environment is also beneficial to the pupil.  It helps in the language development which is important in the formative years of the pupil.  Scientifically, this can be explained that the musical training develops the left side of the brain where language processing mostly occurs.  Familiar songs can process information on the young minds.  The relationship between music and language development produces a social advantage on the pupils.  When the language of the pupil is developed, he becomes socially competent.  He enhances his verbal competence which is strengthened by his musical experience.

But it is still important to note that music does not make a pupil smarter.  But it does make him interesting and happy which can be considered as the keys to being a smart pupil.

So the next time a teacher experiences hardship in bearing with a pupil, start everything with music.
