Teaching can be a very rewarding profession, full of excitement and opportunity to shape young minds. However, as a beginning teacher, you must overcome challenges that may differ from challenges facing seasoned educators. Beginning teachers are just finding their footing in terms of their teaching style and may be intimidated by large groups of students as they begin their careers.

Classroom Management

Because they are new to the profession, new teachers may have issues with managing a classroom. This involves more than just disciplining kids. It also involves engaging them in the day’s lesson and lessening disruptions from multiple students. Classroom management is key to ensuring that students are actually learning and not distracted by the antics of other students, which can be a daunting task for a new teacher until she finds her footing in the classroom.

Discipline

Each teacher has a different way of disciplining kids, some more harsh than others. New teachers have to find their own path when it comes to disciplining kids, and until they do, they may try different methods. However, since consistency is key to getting kids to behave, this may mean a more unruly lot until a new teacher figures out what works best for him.

Support

Various mentors and professors support students and beginning teachers as they are learning their way around the profession. However, after a new teacher starts teaching on her own, that support may no longer be accessible. This change in support makes it challenging for a teacher to figure out what she is doing right or wrong, resulting in a “sink or swim” situation common among new teacher.

Lack of Resources

While most teachers become accustomed to working without access to resources, new teachers may find this particularly challenging. Seasoned educators have other resources and creative ideas in place to work around a lack of extra items for classroom lessons and activities. This ability is something a new teacher still has to cultivate as he goes further into the profession.
