Being a school head is not an easy task.  Managing a school, ensuring that it caters its clientele effectively and efficiently requires a lot of time, efforts, patience and strategies. And the success of every school depends on the stability of its human resources. But how can a principal face the challenge of having a strong human resources?

            Here are some tips that you should reflect on……

  1. Earn your subordinates respect by making them note that you are a few steps ahead of them.  Showing your teachers and parents that you know what you are doing and saying, will make them feel that they can depend and count on you. Continuous learning and upgrading of what you know and what you have is very significant.
  2. Ensure that your vision, mission and objectives are clear to everyone.  Making your vision, mission, and objectives clear will help your co workers know what to do and will help you encourage them to work with you towards one goal, mission and vision.
  3. Set your priorities.Setting up your priorities will result to a stress free productive environment. 
  4. Involve your stakeholders.  According to a chinese proverb, Tell me and I’ll forget, show me, I may not remember, Involve me and I’ll understand. Involving our stakeholders at all times will develop concern and commitment.
  5. Build Rapport.  As a head of school you must know when to talk and how to say whatever you want to transpire.  It is important that you know how to listen and learn to follow.  A harmonious relationship is the key factor to success.
  6. Let them Grow.  Provide opportunities for your teachers to grow and develop.  Know their career path and help them achieve their goals.
  7. Walk your Talk.  Never set rules that you cannot follow.  You should always serve as model to your subordinates.

Remember that the success of each school depends on how its resources are being managed. So it is very important to have an effective school head to make it a quality school ready to serve its goal and purpose.
